Are you making these mopping mistakes?
Being a busy parent is tough – not only do you have to balance work and having children, but you often have to keep your home clean too. The busier you become, the harder it is to break old habits. This is especially true when it comes to mopping.
To help you out, we’ve outlined a few of the most common mopping mistakes for you down below. See whether you need to adjust your mopping routine by reading on.
Choosing the wrong mop
Depending on the surface you are cleaning, you can use either a sponge mop, cotton head mop, or microfibre mop. Natural wood floors require flat mops while tile responds well to sponge mops.
Using Dirty Water
Using soap and water to clean your flooring isn’t necessarily a mistake, but using dirty water certainly is. To avoid this, you can either use two buckets (one for rinsing and one for cleaning) or you can dump your water frequently. Regardless, make sure your water stays clear to avoid spreading dirt on your flooring (and to avoid streaking).
Failing to Remove Dirt Beforehand
Mopping is a two-part job. The first part is sweeping or vacuuming the surface prior to cleaning. Dust, dirt and grime builds up on the surface and cannot be removed with a mop. Never skip vacuuming or sweepin before you mop to keep your floor looking clean.
Using Too Much Soap
This one is extremely common. In an effort to properly clean your floor, you might find yourself using more solution than is necessary. Typically, a small dose of vinegar and water can work wonders on your floor, but be sure and follow the manufacturer’s instruction for cleaning to avoid damaging the surface.
In between professional cleans, maintain the cleanliness of your flooring through regular mopping, and keep your floors looking their best by avoiding these common mistakes.
