Natural Skincare - 4 Simple recipes you can make at home
I used to love expensive designer skincare over natural skincare options for their innovative and quick-fixing solutions. Who wouldn’t? There is a product designed for every skin related “problem” you can think of. Wrinkles? Age need not get the better of you, there’s a youth defying cream for that! Blemishes? Don’t change your diet, there’s a gel to help you become clean and clear overnight. Bags under your eyes? No point in getting additional shut-eye when we have a lotion to banish those dark circles. When did caring for the largest organ on our body become so complicated? Why do we even need so many creams, lotions, gels, scents and toners anyway? Well, simply put, we don’t. Clever marketing will tell us otherwise and our need for a quick fix and easily solution quite often wins. But skincare can be really simple AND really healthy if you want it to be.
My obsession for owning and using every new and exciting product on the market ended the minute I realised what I was actually putting on my skin (a chemical concoction). I have since created some of my own natural skincare recipes that I use which are not only cheap and easy to make but are also great for your skin. Some of the ingredients used you will find in your kitchen cupboard and fridge (and make lovely gifts for friends and family if you make in bulk). Before you rush out to buy the next ground-breaking product, try your hand at making these natural skincare beauties:

HONOURABLE MENTIONS
Aloe Vera – you can buy one of these beautiful plants for around $8 from Bunnings or your local nursery and it lasts FOREVER! Use the inner gel on scarred skin or to provide relief from sunburn.
Seaweed – I have used seaweed as a face mask and my skin always feels super soft. Just grab a few nori sheets, cut into small pieces, dip into water and place on your skin for 10 minutes. Rinse and enjoy silky smooth skin.
Coconut oil – It makes a perfect moisturiser. It makes the perfect everything really! Just use a small amount on skin to rejuvenate or hydrate dry and flaking skin.
Hydrogen Peroxide – You are probably aware of peroxide for hair. Don’t freak out, this stuff is a miracle solution. If you can get yourself a 3% solution, keep in the fridge and dab on blemishes when they come up. Watch them dry out and disappear before your eyes.
Still don’t have time to make your own natural skincare?
Switch to super natural alternatives with minimal ingredients. Here are a few of my favourites:
Mukti Organics: I love all of their products! But I notice as my skin changes with age, I have been leaning more toward their age-defying range which makes my skin feel very soft and supple.
Weleda: Their pomegranate hand cream and rose deodorant are just a couple of my favourites. They smell fresh and feel great.
Vanessa Megan: I recommend the Clementine Organic Foaming Cleanser – It’s beautiful for all skin types. Plus the shampoo and conditioner is lovely.
Aromabals: just quietly… the little balls of heaven known as ‘wash rocks’ ROCK MY WORLD! They are incredible for an all-in-one soap (you can even use them on your dog!) and are handmade using white clay as a base. The strawberry wash rock is my favourite.
doTERRA: I really love essential oils and doTERRA not only have a wonderful cleaning range with on Guard (which we use in cleaning homes and for domestic cleaning in Perth) but they also have a lovely natural skincare range.
Black Chicken Remedies: I pretty much love everything they make! My all time favourite is the ICU eye serum.
