The top 5 essential oils for green cleaning
Cleaning is work… hard work. If you’re not a fan of cleaning and find yourself stuck on the wrong side of the sponge, it can sometimes be difficult to do it with a smile on your face. What makes it worse for those not so into cleaning, is the massive amounts of bleach fumes and other toxic chemicals often found in products used.
It’s a good thing you don’t have to clean with these products! Essential oils help make cleaning easier (and safer). If you want to keep your house green and clean, then take a look at my suggestions for the top five essential oils you can use when cleaning.
1. Lemon
Quite possibly the most popular of the essential oils, lemon leaves behind a fresh, breezy scent that makes you want to clean even more!! Ok, well maybe not to clean more, but you understand where I am going with this. Lemon is also an antibacterial that eliminates germs and removes grime.
2. Lavender
Lavender is proven to relax the nervous system and calm the mind and is particularly beneficial for evening time cleaning. Lavender is also antiviral and fungicidal so you know that you’re getting a real clean.
3. Sweet Orange
If you need to energise yourself and lift your mood, then sweet orange essential oil is what you need. Research shows that sweet orange can kill E.coli and Salmonella, which makes it perfect for deep cleaning on any level.
4. Tea Tree
Tea tree oil is by far the most powerful essential oil on the planet. It is strong in scent and eliminates germs thanks to its antimicrobial, antiseptic, and antifungal properties. You can combine it with softer scents to balance out it’s overwhelming aroma.
5. Peppermint
Peppermint is revitalizing and energizing no matter what time of day, but if you plan to do a late night cleaning keep this in mind. It smells amazing and leaves your surfaces smelling and looking fabulous.
6. Honourable mentions:
There are a few others worth considering also: Rosemary, clove and eucalyptus (which are also some of our favs at All Pure cleaning for green cleaning).
So give these essential oils a try and mix with baking soda, Dr Bronners’ liquid soap and vinegar for an even more powerful clean!
